World Adventurers Celebrates 1,000 Posts

Dear Reader,

World Adventurers hit a major milestone today — 1,000 published posts! A thousand articles and updates later, this blog is still going strong.

I started World Adventurers in December 2004, as a way to update family and friends about life overseas. It has evolved in ways I never imagined when I wrote my first “Hello, World” post. Since then I’ve written about my books, writing, news and politics, humor, sports, finance, culture, thoughts and sayings, updates from around the world, and other topics. My travelogues have been by far this site’s most popular feature.

The early blog hosted by the now-defunct MSN Spaces Live had more than 350,000 hits and was featured regularly by Microsoft on its “What’s Your Story” page. At a time when blogging was far less ubiquitous, World Adventurers was — and remains — on the frontiers of digital media. whatsyourstory

Readership declined when Spaces Live folded and I took a breather from blogging in 2008-09. World Adventurers moved to WordPress in late 2010, and made a roaring comeback since then with another 300,000 hits. Earlier this year the site moved to its new and permanent home on my website, www.mgedwards.com, and was rebranded as World Adventurers Magazine. This site hosted by WordPress and featured on Freshly Pressed has remained so popular that I haven’t shut it down; it’s still going strong and complements the new e-zine. All told, World Adventurers has had about 700,000 unique hits and tens of thousands of visitors since its inception.

World Adventurers is Moving

magazineWe’re moving to a new home! After three years with WordPress.com, World Adventurers is finally merging with my author’s web site, MG Edwards, hosted by WordPress.org. MG Edwards will be a one-stop shop for all my content from books to travel articles and videos. Please visit the new site and subscribe to it.

I will continue to cross-post here for a few months during the transition. Although I’ve added all the content on this site to the new one, I will leave this blog as-is for the foreseeable future until the migration is complete.

I think you’ll find the new site easier to use with a better design. All blog posts will be organized into articles for the World Adventurers Magazine, an online resource for travel and more. You’ll also notice more content, more updates and more variety.

So…come on over to MG Edwards and sit back, relax, and enjoy the write!

2013 in Review and 200,000 Hits

With this blog approaching 200,000 hits since its relaunch in August 2011, it’s a good time to publish World Adventurers‘ stats for last year. All in all, not a shabby year for me considering that my blogging was not as consistent as it was before. I needed more time to work on new material for upcoming books I will publish in 2014. This, I hope, will be the first of many new posts in 2014 and push this blog over 300,000 hits. As always, Dear Reader, thanks for visiting World Adventurers and for your continued support.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared the 2013 World Adventurers annual report.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 120,000 times in 2013. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 5 days for that many people to see it.

World Adventurers’ 2012 in Review

This year was a good one for  my blog, World Adventurers. In 2012, there were 116 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 911 posts. The busiest day of the year was April 4th with 3,919 views. The most popular post that day was Top Ten Things to See in Zambia (with Photos) when WordPress featured it on Freshly Pressed.

According to WordPress, 4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had about 57,000 views and 5,900 followers via Twitter and WordPress in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 13 Film Festivals. That’s a tall order! But just as notable is that readership and views this year more than doubled the past three years combined. How did World Adventurers grow so fast? Frequent posts with good content, photos, and detailed tags to help users find the right posts in search results.

World Adventurers

The official blog of published author, Michael (M.G.) Edwards, World Adventurers was started in 2004 when Michael moved abroad with his family to serve as a diplomat in U.S. missions overseas. With more than 850 posts, 300,000 hits, and features on WordPress’ "Freshly Pressed," World Adventurers is a dynamic travel blog with a large following. The content on World Adventurers lends itself to those interested in adventure travel, with resources that range from Michael’s own travel tips to lists of top things to see and do in a variety of countries.

Why We Love It

Michael’s background and degrees in international studies, political science, history, German, and a master’s degree in China Studies makes it more than apparent that World Adventurers is written by an author with extensive international experience. This is supplemented all the more by Michael’s past career as a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State, which included assignments such as: working as a consular officer at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Korea, and as a political officer at the U.S. Embassy in Asunción, Paraguay, where he focused on political-military affairs and human rights.

What makes World Adventurers unique is the way every post tells a story. The latest blog post, for example – Top Ten Things to Savor in Macau – is depicted with photos and a travelogue, keeping readers interested as well as informed. The photos are rich in detail and give a deeper glimpse into the experiences shared on World Adventurers.
